Now that you have decided what type of question it is, and answered that question, you're nearly done. The next step is to look at your answer, and think of three reasons "why" you believe the answer to be true.
So, if the topic were: "What book has had the most impact on you?"
And your answer is: "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson.
When you ask yourself, "Why has this book had the most impact on me?"
You should be able to pull at least three reasons out of your hat. In this case, you may say that: "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" has had a powerful impact on me because it helped me to understand journalism, it changed my view of the status quo, and it stands as a guide book for handling relationships.
Congratulations, you've nearly written the essay.
Your answer to the question becomes your THESIS.
Your three answers to "Why?" become the topics of your body paragraphs.
